Dubai: An Air India flight, AI171, bound for London crashed shortly after takeoff near the Ahmedabad airport on Thursday, June 12. The aircraft reportedly went down in the Meghaninagar area, close to the airport, and was carrying 242 passengers onboard.

Video capturing the moment the flight crashed has been shared on social media by Indian media outlets.

The 18-second clip captures the aircraft crashing into a residential area, minutes after it departed for London around 1:30pm.

Air India issued a statement regarding the incident involving the crash. The airline said they are currently gathering details about the situation.

Visuals from the crash site show debris engulfed in flames, with thick black smoke rising. Footage also shows people being moved on stretchers and rushed away in ambulances for treatment.
